Transferring Members
We are excited that you have chosen Upsilon Sigma Omega as your new Alpha Kappa Alpha home. In order to transfer, you must obtain the consent of your former chapter by completing the Transfer Verification Form. Please have the President and Treasurer from the last chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where you were a member complete the form and return the original to you. In order to transfer you must obtain clearance from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Corporate Office.

Reactivating Members
We are always excited to welcome returning members to our Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc. sisterhood! We are even more excited that you have chosen Upsilon Sigma Omega as your chapter home. In order to reactivate, you must first complete a Graduate Chapter Reactivation Form. Transitioning from Undergraduate to Graduate
Upsilon Sigma Omega welcomes all newly graduated soror(s) within the Marlboro County area and invite you to join our chapter. Our Membership Committee is committed and determined to make sure that your transition into our chapter is a smooth one.
Alpha Kappa Alpha wants sorors to commit to a lifetime of active service. Establishing a relationship with Alpha Kappa Alpha at the graduate level will allow for continued growth and development, and nourish the bonds of sisterhood. However, establishing a graduate relationship can be frustrating and intimidating if the process is not completely smooth.
Eight Easy Steps to Transitioning from Undergraduate Soror to Graduate Soror:

Make sure all of your financial obligations to your undergraduate chapter are completed prior to graduation.

Fill out the Transfer Verification Form

Ask your Graduate Advisor to contact the chapter in the area you will be located. This can serve as an informal introduction.

Send a letter of introduction to chapter president in the area you will be located.

Visit the chapter in the area you will be located.

Attend community activities and events that are sponsored by chapter in the area you will be located.

Once you have selected a chapter for which you wish to affiliate, be prepared to submit your Transfer Verification Form along with dues associated with the chapter. Many Graduate chapters waive dues for soror making this transition.

Ask to have a mentor.
Membership Requirements
By uniting individual efforts, Alpha Kappa Alpha has built a strong, cohesive organization that positively impacts the lives of families and communities. The Sorority’s success is based on the depth of commitment, vision and confidence of its members.
Alpha Kappa Alpha seeks women who will promote, uphold, and extend its policies and programs. In return, the Sorority is a conduit through which individuals can grow and develop, personally and professionally, while simultaneously providing “Service to All Mankind.”
Membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is generally classified as undergraduate or graduate.
In both classifications:
Prospective members must have high ethical and moral standards.
Membership can only be obtained by completing the Sorority’s official Membership Intake Process (MIP).
Interested candidates should not participation in demeaning, degrading or unkind acts. Should members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority ask you to perform tasks or participate in activities other than those outlined in our MIP; they are in violation of the Sorority’s policies and practices and do not represent the values of the organization. This behavior will not be tolerated.
Membership is by invitation ONLY. Membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will not be extended to:

An individual who knowingly participates in activities outside of the official Membership Intake Process.

An individual who knowingly participates in activities which are demeaning, degrading or demoralizing.

An individual who knowingly submits falsified documents or credentials.
Graduate Membership Requirements
Completion of at least a baccalureate degree with a cumulative degree avearge of at least C+ or a graduate degree from an accredited senior college/university.
Motivation and ability to promote and extend the policies and programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
